Quiet Grid | Handcrafted Walnut & Aluminium Gongfu Tea Tray

Quiet Grid combines the warmth of natural walnut with a crisp perforated aluminium surface in a generously sized Gongfu tea tray designed for everyday brewing. The contrast between dark wood and the clean white metal grid gives the piece a restrained contemporary character while preserving the tactile warmth expected of a traditional tea-table object.

The outer frame and water-catching base are crafted from walnut wood, with the natural grain left clearly visible across the sides and interior. Its raised perimeter gives the tray a defined architectural form while helping contain water from rinsing teaware, warming vessels and successive infusions.

Set into the walnut frame is a removable white aluminium-alloy drainage panel. Hundreds of closely spaced hexagonal openings allow water to pass quickly through the surface into the reservoir below, preventing excess water from pooling around the teapot and cups during a Gongfu tea session.

The honeycomb pattern is functional as well as visual. Its dense distribution provides broad support for teaware while maintaining a high open area for drainage, allowing anything from a single teapot and cups to a more complete tea service to be arranged freely across the surface.

The aluminium panel can be lifted completely away from the wooden tray, giving direct access to the reservoir beneath. This makes it easier to empty collected water and clean both the metal surface and the walnut base after use, rather than requiring water to remain trapped inside an inaccessible structure.

Without the aluminium insert, the walnut base can also function independently as a simple wooden serving tray for cups, tea accessories or other small objects, giving the piece a secondary use beyond wet brewing.

Its larger rectangular proportions provide considerably more working space than an individual dry-brewing tray, making Quiet Grid particularly suitable for shared Gongfu sessions where multiple cups, a fairness pitcher and a brewing vessel may all be used together.

The restrained combination of walnut and white aluminium allows the tray to work with a wide range of teaware, without introducing an additional decorative motif that competes with the vessels themselves.

Handcrafted in Dehua, natural differences in walnut grain, tone and texture make each tray subtly individual.
